So they see some of the extreme cases of anime, big breasts, big eyes, crazy hairstyles, poor lipsyncing, etc and expect those kind of things to be in all animes. People simply make that generalization to avoid spending time actually researching the art form and finding the more unique and visually appealing elements. Unfortunately, many of the animes that become popular outside Japan follow those rules. To pick out differences between anime and american cartoons, you would have to over-simplify and generalize in exactly that way. The anime style encompasses tons of variations on genre, styles, and techniques. The American style cartoons that become popular are a typically comedies or aimed at guyren. There are American cartoons that don't fit into those categories though, so to make any generalizations about that would mean doing the same thing as those who criticize anime. I full comparison anime and American cartoons would make a great book! There's simply too much to cover in a Yahoo! answer. |
